มั้ง (mang) in Thai: what it means and how to use it

มั้งmáng at the end of a sentence turns it into a guess: “I guess”, “probably”.

มั้ง máng

I guess, probably (unsure, at the end) particle

  • máng high
  • High: start high and go a little higher, a bit tense; don’t let it fall.

How to use it

มั้งmáng at the end makes a statement a guess: "I guess, probably, I think". It's casual and very common in conversation and chats; in careful speech say คงkong or อาจจะàat-jà before the verb instead, as in คงไม่มาkong mâi maa, he's probably not coming. Answering a question with just มั้งmáng sounds vague, so use it when you really aren't sure.
