group, lot, bunch; (before a word) makes it plural noun
- pûak falling
- Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”
How to use it
Thai nouns have no plural: หมาmǎa is a dog or dogs, and a number, a counting word or หลายlǎai, several, does the counting: หมาสามตัวmǎa sǎam dtua, three dogs. Where English needs "these" or "those", Thai uses พวกpûak, "group, lot": พวกนี้pûak níi, these ones, and before pronouns, พวกเราpûak-rao (we) and พวกเขาpûak-kǎo (they). Doubling a word also makes a group: เด็กๆdèk-dèk, the kids. About people, พวกpûak can sound like "that lot", so with a group of friends ทุกคนtúk kon, everyone, is warmer.
