power, authority noun
- am mid
- nâat falling
- Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”
How to use it
อำนาจam-nâat is power over people and decisions: the power of a boss, an official, a court or a government. Someone powerful มีอำนาจmii am-nâat, "has power", and an official who can't help you may say the matter isn't within their authority.
Other kinds of power have other words: strength is แรงraeng, energy is พลังงานpá-lang-ngaan, and the power in a socket is just ไฟfai.
