สิ (si) in Thai: what it means and how to use it

สิsì is the urging particle at the end of a sentence: “go on!”, “come on!”, “of course!”.

สิ sì

particle for urging or insisting: go on!, of course! particle

  • sì low
  • Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.

How to use it

สิsì at the end pushes a little: an invitation becomes "go on!", an answer becomes "of course!". It sounds friendly between people who know each other, but bossy said to a stranger in a request. You'll also see it written ซิsí, and young people say ดิdì: ไปดิbpai dì, go on then! It's short; the long สี่sìi is four.

Don't mix it up

  • สี่sìi

    four

The same low tone with a long vowel: four.
