How to use it

The name comes from Chinese, like many Thai snack words. Crispy fried spring rolls, ปอเปี๊ยะทอดbpaw-bpía tâwt, are filled with glass noodles and vegetables and come with a sweet chilli sauce for dipping. Fresh ones, ปอเปี๊ยะสดbpaw-bpía sòt, are soft wrappers rolled around Chinese sausage, tofu and cucumber under a sweet, sticky sauce.

Both syllables start with bp, a p without a puff of air.
