State (government) in Thai

“State (government)” in Thai is รัฐrát.

รัฐ rát

the state; a state (as in a US state) noun

  • rát high
  • High: start high and go a little higher, a bit tense; don’t let it fall.

How to use it

รัฐrát is the state: whatever belongs to the government or is run by it. A public hospital is a โรงพยาบาลรัฐroong-pá-yaa-baan rát and a public university a มหาวิทยาลัยรัฐmá-hǎa-wít-tá-yaa-lai rát; the opposite is เอกชนèek-gà-chon, private. It also names the states of a federal country, like the US.

รัฐrát is the first part of รัฐบาลrát-tà-baan (government) and รัฐมนตรีrát-tà-mon-dtrii (minister), where it's said rát-tà.
