  • หา hǎa

    to look for; to go and see someone verb

    Rising tone. ไปหาbpai hǎa + a person is 'go and see': ไปหาน้ำbpai hǎa náam go and see Nam.

    • หา hǎaห้อง hâwngเช่า châoใกล้ glâiนิมมาน nim-maan

      I'm looking for a room to rent near Nimman.

  • เช่า châo

    to rent verb

    A rented room is a ห้องเช่าhâwng châo, and ให้เช่าhâi châo on a sign means 'for rent'.

    • อยาก yàakเช่า châoห้อง hâwng

      I'd like to rent a room.

    • เช่า châoรถ rótได้ dâiที่ไหน tîi-nǎiครับ kráp

      Where can I rent a car?

      Men เช่ารถได้ที่ไหนครับ Women เช่ารถได้ที่ไหนคะ

  • ค่า kâa

    fee, cost, bill noun

    ค่าkâa + what you pay for: ค่าเช่าkâa châo rent, ค่าไฟkâa fai electricity, ค่าน้ำkâa náam water, ค่ารถkâa rót the fare.

    • ค่า kâaเช่า châoเท่าไหร่ tâo-ràiครับ kráp

      How much is the rent?

      Men ค่าเช่าเท่าไหร่ครับ Women ค่าเช่าเท่าไหร่คะ

    • ค่า kâaรถ rótห้า hâaสิบ sìpบาท bàat

      The fare is 50 baht.

  • ไฟ fai

    electricity; light; fire noun

    เปิดไฟbpòet fai turn on the light, ปิดไฟbpìt fai turn it off, ค่าไฟkâa fai the electricity bill.

    • เปิด bpòetไฟ faiได้ dâiไหม mǎiครับ kráp

      Can I turn on the light?

      Men เปิดไฟได้ไหมครับ Women เปิดไฟได้ไหมคะ

    • ปิด bpìtไฟ faiด้วย dûay

      Please turn off the light.

  • เดือน duean

    month noun

    Long-stay rooms are rented by the month: เดือนละduean lá per month.

    • อยู่ yùuเชียงใหม่ chiang-màiสาม sǎamเดือน duean

      I'm staying in Chiang Mai for three months.

    • เดือน dueanนี้ níiยุ่ง yûngมาก mâak

      This month is really busy.

  • พัน pan

    thousand number

    Number + พันpan: แปดพันbpàet pan 8,000, หนึ่งพันห้าร้อยnùeng pan hâa ráwy 1,500.

    • เดือน dueanละ láแปด bpàetพัน panบาท bàat

      8,000 baht a month.

    • หนึ่ง nùengพัน panบาท bàatแพง paengไป bpai

      1,000 baht is too expensive.

  • รวม ruam

    to include; in total verb

    Ask what the price covers with รวมruam + bill + ไหมmǎi: รวมค่าน้ำไหมruam kâa náam mǎi.

    • รวม ruamค่า kâaน้ำ náamไหม mǎiครับ kráp

      Is water included?

      Men รวมค่าน้ำไหมครับ Women รวมค่าน้ำไหมคะ

    • รวม ruamไวไฟ wai-faiแล้ว láew

      Wifi is already included.

  • เสีย sǐa

    broken, out of order adjective

    For anything that stops working: แอร์เสียae sǐa. No word for 'is' needed. Food that has gone off is เสียsǐa too.

    • ตู้เย็น dtûu-yenเสีย sǐa

      The fridge is broken.

    • โทรศัพท์ too-rá-sàpเสีย sǐa

      My phone is broken.

  • เสียงดัง sǐang dang

    noisy, loud adjective

    • ตอนเช้า dtawn-cháaoเสียงดัง sǐang dangนิดหน่อย nít-nàwy

      It's a bit noisy in the mornings.

    • ร้าน ráanนี้ níiเสียงดัง sǐang dangมาก mâak

      This place is really loud.

  • ซ่อม sâwm

    to repair, to fix verb

    • ซ่อม sâwmได้ dâiไหม mǎiครับ kráp

      Can you fix it?

      Men ซ่อมได้ไหมครับ Women ซ่อมได้ไหมคะ

    • ซ่อม sâwmแล้ว láew

      It's been fixed.

  • ให้ hâi

    for (someone), in requests preposition

    In a request, ให้hâi after the verb means 'for me': ช่วยดูให้หน่อยchûay duu hâi nàwy could you have a look for me? Its other uses come in unit 20.

    • ช่วย chûayดู duuให้ hâiหน่อย nàwyครับ kráp

      Could you take a look for me?

      Men ช่วยดูให้หน่อยครับ Women ช่วยดูให้หน่อยค่ะ

    • ช่วย chûayซ่อม sâwmให้ hâiหน่อย nàwyครับ kráp

      Could you fix it for me?

      Men ช่วยซ่อมให้หน่อยครับ Women ช่วยซ่อมให้หน่อยค่ะ

  • เพิ่ม pôem

    to add; extra verb

    ขอkǎw + thing + เพิ่มpôem asks for more of it: ขอข้าวเพิ่มkǎw kâao pôem.

    • ขอ kǎwข้าว kâaoเพิ่ม pôemครับ kráp

      Could I have some more rice?

      Men ขอข้าวเพิ่มครับ Women ขอข้าวเพิ่มค่ะ

    • จ่าย jàaiเพิ่ม pôemเท่าไหร่ tâo-ràiครับ kráp

      How much extra do I pay?

      Men จ่ายเพิ่มเท่าไหร่ครับ Women จ่ายเพิ่มเท่าไหร่คะ

  • อีก ìik

    more, another, again adverb

    Before a number it means 'more': อีกสองคืนìik sǎwng kuuen two more nights, อีกอันìik an another one. You know it from อีกทีìik tii (once more).

    • ขอ kǎwอีก ìikแก้ว gâewครับ kráp

      Another glass, please.

      Men ขออีกแก้วครับ Women ขออีกแก้วค่ะ

    • อยู่ yùuอีก ìikสาม sǎamวัน wan

      I'm staying three more days.

  • บ้าน bâan

    house, home noun

    You know it from กลับบ้านglàp bâan (go home). It means any home, a house or a flat, and อยู่บ้านyùu bâan is 'at home'.

    • วันนี้ wan-níiอยู่ yùuบ้าน bâan

      I'm at home today.

    • บ้าน bâanไกล glaiไหม mǎi

      Do you live far away?
