How it works
1 I think …
Start an opinion with คิดว่าkít wâa (think that), then say the whole idea: คิดว่าเชียงใหม่น่าอยู่กว่าkít wâa chiang-mài nâa-yùu gwàa (I think Chiang Mai is nicer to live in). In casual talk the verb drops out and I + ว่าwâa is enough: ผมว่าpǒm wâa / ฉันว่าchǎn wâa (I reckon).
สำหรับsǎm-ràp + person (for me) and ส่วนตัวsùan-dtua (personally) start an opinion too. To ask for one, say คิดว่ายังไงkít wâa yang-ngai: what do you think?

I think Chiang Mai is nicer to live in.
- ผม pǒmว่า wâaร้าน ráanนี้ níiอร่อย à-ràwyกว่า gwàa

2 Because, so, but
A reason follows เพราะpráw (or เพราะว่าpráw wâa): ชอบเชียงใหม่เพราะคนใจดีchâwp chiang-mài práw kon jai-dii (I like Chiang Mai because the people are kind). A result follows ก็เลยgâw-loei (so): เบื่อรถติดก็เลยมาอยู่ที่นี่bùea rót dtìt gâw-loei maa yùu tîi-nîi (I got fed up with the traffic, so I came to live here).
Contrast two things with แต่dtàe (but), or switch to the other side with ส่วนsùan (as for, while): กรุงเทพวุ่นวายส่วนเชียงใหม่เงียบกว่าgrung-têep wûn-waai sùan chiang-mài ngîap gwàa (Bangkok is hectic, while Chiang Mai is quieter).
- ชอบ châwpเชียงใหม่ chiang-màiเพราะ práwคน konใจดี jai-dii
I like Chiang Mai because the people are kind.
- รถติด rót dtìtทุก túkวัน wanก็เลย gâw-loeiไม่ mâiอยาก yàakอยู่ yùuกรุงเทพ grung-têep
The traffic's bad every day, so I don't want to live in Bangkok.
- อร่อย à-ràwyแต่ dtàeแพง paengไป bpaiหน่อย nàwy
It's tasty, but a bit too expensive.

3 Agree, disagree, it depends
Thais rarely answer an opinion with a flat 'no'. Agree with เห็นด้วยhěn-dûay, and disagree softly with ไม่ค่อยเห็นด้วยmâi kâwy hěn-dûay (I don't really agree) or ไม่แน่ใจนะmâi nâe-jai ná (I'm not so sure). ไม่เห็นด้วยmâi hěn-dûay is correct, but blunt.
When there's no right answer, แล้วแต่láew-dtàe keeps everyone happy: แล้วแต่คนláew-dtàe kon (it depends on the person). A final นะná makes any opinion friendlier.

I totally agree.
- ส่วนตัว sùan-dtuaไม่ค่อย mâi kâwyเห็นด้วย hěn-dûayนะ ná
Personally, I don't really agree.

Tips
- •Comparisons from unit 17 come back in opinions: น่าอยู่กว่าnâa-yùu gwàa (nicer to live in), อร่อยที่สุดà-ràwy tîi-sùt (the tastiest).
- •Ask why with ทำไมtam-mai or เพราะอะไรpráw à-rai, and answer with เพราะpráw: เพราะไม่วุ่นวายpráw mâi wûn-waai (because it isn't hectic).
- •To say you prefer something, use ชอบchâwp … มากกว่าmâak gwàa: ชอบทะเลมากกว่าchâwp tá-lee mâak gwàa (I prefer the sea).
- •Ask for an opinion with คิดว่ายังไงkít wâa yang-ngai, literally 'think how?', not with อะไรà-rai (what).
