Freen Sarocha x Becky Armstrongฟรีนเบค

What the song is about

ทฤษฎีรักนี้สีชมพูtrít-sà-dii rák níi sǐi chom-puu is a T-pop song by Freen Sarocha x Becky Armstrong (2022). The theme of GAP The Series (2022), sung by its two stars, Freen and Becky: Channel 3 billed it as Thailand's first girls' love (GL) series, and the pair, FreenBecky, have had fans far beyond Thailand ever since. A sunny promise to someone who feels ordinary: I'll hold your hand, and on grey days I'll turn your whole world pink. Its lines teach everyday words (interesting, hand, world, lonely, the colours) and two handy patterns: worth doing (interesting) and to change something into something else.

Key lines, explained

Tap a line to hear it. Once the video is playing, lines jump to their moment in the song.

  1. เป็น bpenเพียง piangคน konคน konนึง nuengที่ tîiทั่วไป tûa-bpaiไม่ mâiน่าสนใจ nâa-sǒn-jai

I'm just an ordinary person, nothing interesting.

The song's first words. เป็นเพียงbpen piang = to be just, only: เพียงpiang is the written, sung word for แค่kâe. คนคนนึงkon kon nueng = one person: คนkon is both the noun and its own counting word, and นึงnueng is หนึ่งnùeng, one, the way it's said after a counting word. ทั่วไปtûa-bpai = general, ordinary, and ที่tîi (who, that) joins it to the person: คนคนนึงที่ทั่วไปkon kon nueng tîi tûa-bpai = a person who is ordinary. The label's lyric sheet doubles ทั่วtûa here instead, but ที่tîi is what she sings. น่าnâa + verb = worth …-ing: น่าสนใจnâa-sǒn-jai = interesting (worth your interest), น่ากินnâa gin = tasty-looking.
  2. แต่ dtàeจะ jàมี miiคน konคน konนึง nuengจับ jàpมือ muueเธอ toeไว้ wái

But there will be someone holding your hand.

Before it, the singer admits that hard times may come. จะมีjà mii = there will be. จับมือjàp muue = to hold someone's hand: จับjàp = to hold, to catch, and มือmuue = hand. Verb + ไว้wái = and keep it that way: จับมือเธอไว้jàp muue toe wái = hold your hand and not let go; จำไว้jam wái = remember it. The last word, ไว้wái, is held over the start of the next line.
  3. ตัว dtuaฉัน chǎnจะ jàเปลี่ยน bplìanโลก lôokเธอ toeทั้ง tángใบ baiให้ hâiเป็น bpenสี sǐiชมพู chom-puu

I'll turn your whole world pink.

The hook: her promise for the bad days. ตัวฉันdtua chǎn = I, me myself: songs often put ตัวdtua (body, self) before a pronoun, and a tap on ตัวdtua alone shows its other jobs. เปลี่ยนbplìan X ให้เป็นhâi bpen Y = to change X into Y: เปลี่ยนห้องนอนให้เป็นห้องทำงานbplìan hâwng nawn hâi bpen hâwng tam-ngaan = to turn the bedroom into an office. โลกlôok = the world, and its counting word is ใบbai, as for a ball or a bag, so ทั้งใบtáng bai = the whole (world). สีชมพูsǐi chom-puu = pink: a colour comes after สีsǐi, colour.
  4. หาก hàakเมื่อไร mûea-raiที่ tîiฟ้า fáaเป็น bpenสี sǐiเทา taoทำให้ tam-hâiเธอ toeเหงา ngǎo

Whenever the sky turns grey and makes you lonely,

หากhàak = if, the written and sung ถ้าtâa. เมื่อไรที่mûea-rai tîi = whenever, any time that: เมื่อไรmûea-rai is the dictionary spelling of เมื่อไหร่mûea-rài, when, the way it's usually said and written. ฟ้าfáa = the sky, and สีเทาsǐi tao = grey. ทำให้tam-hâi + person + feeling = to make someone feel: ทำให้เธอเหงาtam-hâi toe ngǎo = makes you lonely. A grey sky is a low mood here, as in English; the lines after it offer her a way to feel better.

Grammar in this song

Worth doing: น่าnâa + verb. น่าnâa turns a verb into a describing word, "worth …-ing": น่าสนใจnâa-sǒn-jai = interesting, น่ากินnâa gin = tasty-looking, น่าเบื่อnâa bùea = boring (makes you bored), น่ารักnâa-rák = cute, lovable. With ไม่mâi in front: ไม่น่าสนใจmâi nâa-sǒn-jai = not interesting.

To change X into Y: เปลี่ยนbplìan X ให้เป็นhâi bpen Y. ให้เป็นhâi bpen says what something becomes: ทาสีห้องให้เป็นสีฟ้าtaa sǐi hâwng hâi bpen sǐi fáa = to paint the room light blue. And when a feeling is caused, use ทำให้tam-hâi + person + feeling: ฝนทำให้ฉันเหงาfǒn tam-hâi chǎn ngǎo = the rain makes me lonely.

The culture behind it

GAP The Series (ทฤษฎีสีชมพูtrít-sà-dii sǐi chom-puu, "pink theory"), made by IDOLFACTORY from the novel GAP by Chao Planoy and directed by Nuttapong Wongkaveepairoj, aired on Channel 3 on Saturday nights from 19 November 2022 to 11 February 2023, with every episode also on IDOLFACTORY's YouTube channel, uncut. Mon (Becky), a new graduate, takes a job at the company of Sam (Freen), the cool, distant woman she has looked up to since Sam helped her as a child. Between them are eight years, the company's rules, social class (Sam comes from a family descended from royalty) and the question of two women in love. Channel 3 called it Thailand's first girls' love series, and by 23 February 2023, twelve days after the finale, it had passed 300 million views on YouTube, Kom Chad Luek reported.

The song, words and music by Paween Wongrat, came out as the series' first single in November 2022, sung by the two leads. Fans call the pair FreenBecky, joining their names as fans do for a คู่จิ้นkûu-jîn, an on-screen couple they love to imagine together off screen too. Chao Planoy also wrote the novel behind GMMTV's Us (2025), whose song "More Than Words" is in this library too.
