Just like the one you told me was nothing.
The hook begins: your new partner looks kind of familiar… เหมือนmǔean = like, the same as. คนที่kon tîi + a clause = the person who…, the one that…: คนที่คุณบอกkon tîi kun bàwk = the one you told me about. บอกว่าbàwk wâa = to say that… ไม่มีอะไรmâi mii à-rai, 'there's nothing', is how Thais wave a worry away: it's nothing, nothing's going on. The song calls the ex both คุณkun and เธอtoe, 'you'.
What did you lie to me for?
โกหกgoo-hòk = to lie; โกหกฉันgoo-hòk chǎn = to lie to me. เพื่ออะไรpûea à-rai at the end of a sentence asks what for, what the point was: ไปเพื่ออะไรbpai pûea à-rai = why go? With จะjà in front and ไปbpai after the verb (went and did it), the question becomes a frustrated sigh: why would you go and lie to me?
Your new partner looks so familiar.
The title line. แฟนfaen = a boyfriend or girlfriend; แฟนใหม่faen mài = a new partner, and an ex is แฟนเก่าfaen gào. แฟนใหม่เธอfaen mài toe = your new partner: speech often leaves out ของkǎwng (of) before a person. หน้าคุ้นnâa kún, 'face familiar', = familiar-looking; หน้าคุ้นคุ้นnâa kún kún is what you say to someone you think you've met. จังjang after a description = so, really. - ไหนบอกว่า nǎi bàwk wâaฉัน chǎnคิดมาก kít mâakไป bpai
Didn't you say I was overthinking?
ไหนบอกว่าnǎi bàwk wâa opens a protest, 'but you said…!', 'didn't you say…?': ไหนnǎi isn't 'where' here but a challenge. คิดมากkít mâak, 'think a lot', = to overthink, to worry about nothing, and อย่าคิดมากyàa kít mâak (don't overthink it) is what Thais tell a worried friend. ไปbpai after a description = too much: คิดมากไปkít mâak bpai = overthinking, เผ็ดไปpèt bpai = too spicy.
The answer at the end: it turns out I was the one who was right.
เฉลยchà-lǒei = to reveal the answer, like the answers at the back of a quiz book (เฉลยข้อสอบchà-lǒei kâw-sàwp). ตอนท้ายdtawn táai = at the end. กลายเป็นglaai-bpen = to turn into, to turn out to be. ฉันที่คิดถูกchǎn tîi kít tùuk = me, the one who was right. In คิดถูกkít tùuk, 'think correctly', ถูกtùuk means correct, not cheap (one spelling, two meanings): คิดถูกแล้วkít tùuk láew = you made the right call.
At first I could hardly believe my eyes.
MAIYARAP's verse, when he finds out who the new partner is. ตอนแรกdtawn râek = at first, in the beginning (แรกrâek = first). แทบไม่tâep mâi + verb = hardly, almost not: แทบไม่เชื่อtâep mâi chûea = could hardly believe it, แทบไม่ได้นอนtâep mâi dâi nawn = I hardly slept. เชื่อchûea = to believe. ไม่เชื่อในสายตาmâi chûea nai sǎai-dtaa, 'not believe in (my) eyesight', is how Thai says you can't believe your eyes: สายตาsǎai-dtaa = eyesight, your eyes. He says ก็gâw so lightly that you may not hear it.
I thought the breakup was my fault.
MILLI's verse. คิดว่าkít wâa = to think that. ที่เลิกtîi lôek, 'that (we) broke up', works as a noun: the breakup. เลิกlôek = to break up, and also to quit: เลิกบุหรี่lôek bù-rìi = to quit smoking. ความผิดkwaam-pìt = fault: ความkwaam turns ผิดpìt (wrong) into a noun, as in ความรักkwaam-rák (love). เป็นความผิดเราbpen kwaam-pìt rao = (it) was my fault, with ของkǎwng left out again. เราrao means 'we', and it's also a soft, friendly 'I', the way MILLI uses it here.
You broke up with a cutie like me.
เลิกกับlôek gàp + person = to break up with someone. ต้าวdtâao is internet slang, a cutesy spelling of ตัวdtua: ต้าวน่ารักdtâao nâa-rák = a cutie, a sweet little thing. อย่างเราyàang rao = like me, someone like me. In the next line she says who the ex went off with instead, and cuts the insult short.

The culture behind it
MAIYARAP, real name Nakharin Charunwitthaya, comes from Nakhon Sawan and from a family of ลิเกlí-gee performers, the popular Thai folk opera; his stage name is that of a demon king in the Ramakien, the Thai version of the Ramayana. He made his name in rap battles and won the TV contest The Rapper in 2019. "แฟนใหม่หน้าคุ้นfaen mài nâa kún" came out on YUPP!, his label at the time, on 7 October 2020, with MILLI, then the label's youngest artist, whose debut Phak Kon had come out that February; she also sings in Tilly Birds' Just Being Friendly. MAIYARAP shot the video with more than forty fans and threw them a mini concert, and it passed five million views in five days.
The story is a familiar one: your partner swears the person they keep seeing is แค่เพื่อนkâe pûean (just a friend), it's ไม่มีอะไรmâi mii à-rai (nothing), and after the breakup that person turns out to be the new partner. MAIYARAP's verse ends on a joke about another cover story: Thais call people outside the family พี่pîi (older brother or sister) and น้องnáwng (younger one), so 'he's just a พี่pîi to me' can explain anyone, and he asks when the ex's mother gave birth to all these brothers and sisters. MILLI's verse brings her baby talk, internet slang and a few words of Isan. The full song has some rough words, กูguu (the rough 'I') and โคตรkôot (damn, so), and the video is set in a bar; the key lines here are clean.
