Phrases to say out loud
Listen, then say each one. In the app the speech trainer scores your tones word by word.
- ตัว dtuaนี้ níiถูก tùukกว่า gwàa
This one's cheaper.
กว่าgwàa is one beat: say g and w together, then a low tone. Not 'ga-wàa'. - ร้าน ráanนี้ níiถูก tùukที่สุด tîi-sùt
This shop is the cheapest.
ที่สุดtîi-sùt: fall on ที่tîi, then stay low and cut สุดsùt short. - ชอบ châwpเหมือนกัน mǔean-gan
I like it too.
เหมือนmǔean rises: start low and climb, like a doubtful 'hmm?', then a level กันgan. - ตัว dtuaนี้ níiคับ kápไป bpai
This one's too tight.
คับkáp (tight) is ครับkráp without the r: a high tone and a p you hold, not release. - หลวม lǔamไป bpaiนิดหน่อย nít-nàwy
It's a little too loose.
หลวมlǔam rises: start low and climb. It's one syllable: l, the glide ua, then m. - มี miiสี sǐiอื่น ùuenอีก ìikไหม mǎiครับ kráp
Do you have any other colours?
Men มีสีอื่นอีกไหมครับ mii sǐi ùuen ìik mǎi krápWomen มีสีอื่นอีกไหมคะ mii sǐi ùuen ìik mǎi ká
อื่นùuen and อีกìik are both low: keep them flat, then rise on ไหมmǎi. - ส่ง sòngไป bpaiต่างประเทศ dtàang-bprà-têetได้ dâiไหม mǎiครับ kráp
Can you ship it abroad?

ส่งsòng (send) is low; rising สองsǎwng means 'two'. - ของ kǎwngแท้ táeหรือเปล่า rǔue bplàaoครับ kráp

Rising ของkǎwng, then high แท้táe: lift your voice and keep it up. - ซื้อ súueสอง sǎwngชิ้น chínลด lótได้ dâiไหม mǎiครับ kráp
Can you give me a discount if I buy two?

Three high tones: ซื้อsúue, ชิ้นchín and ลดlót. Keep each one up, and make ลดlót short.
