The words

- กำลัง gam-lang
in the middle of (-ing); be doing right now adverb
Before a verb: กำลังกินgam-lang gin be eating. On its own it means 'strength', as in ออกกำลังกายàwk-gam-lang-gaai (to exercise).
- กำลัง gam-langกิน ginข้าว kâao
I'm eating.
- ฝน fǒnกำลัง gam-langตก dtòk
It's raining right now.

- รอ raw
to wait (for) verb
You know รอแป๊บraw bpáep (wait a moment). There's no word for 'for': รอรถraw rót wait for a ride.
- รอ rawฝน fǒnหยุด yùt
I'm waiting for the rain to stop.
- รอ rawนาน naanไหม mǎi
Have you been waiting long?

to stop; to have a day off verb
Also for days off and closing days: วันนี้หยุดwan-níi yùt I'm off today.
- ฝน fǒnหยุด yùtแล้ว láew
The rain has stopped.
- ร้าน ráanหยุด yùtวันจันทร์ wan-jan
The shop is closed on Mondays.

umbrella; shade noun
Falling tone. It also means 'shade': ในร่มnai rôm in the shade.
- มี miiร่ม rômไหม mǎi
Do you have an umbrella?
- ลืม luuemร่ม rôm
I forgot my umbrella.

wet adjective
- เปียก bpìakมาก mâak
I'm soaking wet.
- รองเท้า rawng-táaoเปียก bpìak
My shoes are wet.

- ข้างนอก kâang-nâwk
outside adverb
Inside is ข้างในkâang-nai: the same family as ข้างหน้าkâang-nâa and ข้างหลังkâang-lǎng.
- ข้างนอก kâang-nâwkฝน fǒnตก dtòkหนัก nàk
It's pouring outside.
- ไป bpaiกิน ginข้าว kâaoข้างนอก kâang-nâwkกัน ganไหม mǎi

power cut; the power is out phrase
Storms knock the power out for an hour or two; you'll hear ไฟดับอีกแล้วfai dàp ìik láew (the power's out again!).

Some years the Ping River rises and low parts of Chiang Mai flood: check the news before you go out.

to keep, to put away; to bring in (the washing) verb
เก็บผ้าgèp pâa is bringing in the washing; เก็บเงินgèp ngoen is saving money, or collecting payment.

Bring the washing in, please!
- เก็บ gèpไว้ wáiใน naiตู้เย็น dtûu-yen
Keep it in the fridge.

book noun
อ่านหนังสือàan nǎng-sǔue (read books) also means 'to study': every student says it before exams.

I'm studying.
- ชอบ châwpอ่าน àanหนังสือ nǎng-sǔue
I like reading.
