- ฝน fǒn
rain noun
Rain 'falls': ฝนตกfǒn dtòk it's raining. Fon's name means rain too, a favourite name for girls born in the rainy season.
- ฝน fǒnตก dtòkแล้ว láew
It's started raining.
- พรุ่งนี้ prûng-níiฝน fǒnจะ jàตก dtòkไหม mǎi
Is it going to rain tomorrow?

Things fall too: โทรศัพท์ตกtoo-rá-sàp dtòk the phone fell.

It rains every day.

It rains in the afternoon.

ฝนตกหนักfǒn dtòk nàk, rain falling heavy, means it's pouring.

It's pouring down.

sunshine, the sun noun
แดดออกdàet àwk the sun comes out; แดดร้อนdàet ráwn the sun is fierce.
- แดด dàetออก àwkแล้ว láew
The sun's come out.

The sun is really strong.

wind noun
An electric fan is พัดลมpát-lom, literally 'fan the wind'.
- วันนี้ wan-níiมี miiลม lom
There's a breeze today.
- ลม lomเย็น yenดี dii
The breeze is nice and cool.

- ฟ้าร้อง fáa-ráwng
thunder; it thunders noun
Literally 'the sky cries out'. Lightning is ฟ้าแลบfáa lâep, 'the sky sticks its tongue out'.

There's thunder.
- ฟ้าร้อง fáa-ráwngเสียงดัง sǐang dangมาก mâak
The thunder is really loud.

cold (weather; feeling cold) adjective
For the weather and for how you feel; cold drinks and food are เย็นyen.
- หนาว nǎaoไหม mǎi
Are you cold?
- ตอนเช้า dtawn-cháaoหนาว nǎaoมาก mâak
It's really cold in the mornings.

- ฝุ่น fùn
dust; smog (PM2.5) noun
Low tone; rising ฝนfǒn is rain. From February to April, ฝุ่นเยอะfùn yóe (lots of dust) means bad smog.
- วันนี้ wan-níiฝุ่น fùnเยอะ yóeมาก mâak
The smog is really bad today.
- ฝุ่น fùnเยอะ yóeไหม mǎi

- องศา ong-sǎa
degrees (temperature) noun
After the number, always Celsius: สามสิบห้าองศาsǎam sìp hâa ong-sǎa 35 degrees.
- วันนี้ wan-níiสาม sǎamสิบ sìpห้า hâaองศา ong-sǎa
It's 35 degrees today.
- ตอนนี้ dtawn-níiกี่ gìiองศา ong-sǎa

the rainy season noun
หน้าnâa + the weather makes a season. The rains last from June to October.
- หน้าฝน nâa-fǒnฝน fǒnตก dtòkทุก túkวัน wan
In the rainy season it rains every day.
- ชอบ châwpหน้าฝน nâa-fǒnไหม mǎi
Do you like the rainy season?

the hot season noun
March to May: the hottest months, with Songkran in the middle.
- หน้าร้อน nâa-ráwnร้อน ráwnมาก mâak
It's really hot in the hot season.
- หน้าร้อน nâa-ráwnต้อง dtâwngใส่ sàiหมวก mùak
In the hot season you have to wear a hat.

the cool season noun
November to February: cool mornings and blue skies, the best months in the north. For countries with snow it means 'winter'.
- หน้าหนาว nâa-nǎaoอากาศ aa-gàatดี diiมาก mâak
The weather is lovely in the cool season.
- ชอบ châwpหน้าหนาว nâa-nǎaoที่สุด tîi-sùt
I like the cool season best.
