Key lines, explained
Tap a line to hear it. Once the video is playing, lines jump to their moment in the song.
- แต่ dtàeไม่ mâiรู้ rúuกลายเป็น glaai-bpenรัก rákไป bpaiตอนไหน dtawn-nǎi
But I don't know when it turned into love.
ไม่รู้mâi rúu + a question word = I don't know (when, who, what…); the first key line of คั่นกูkân guu starts with ไม่รู้mâi rúu too. กลายเป็นglaai-bpen = to turn into, to become: กลายเป็นรักglaai-bpen rák = turned into love, and ไปbpai after it says it has moved on from what it was. ตอนไหนdtawn-nǎi = when, at what point: ตอนdtawn (time) + ไหนnǎi (which). - เพลง pleengที่ tîiฉัน chǎnเคย koeiฟัง fangวันนี้ wan-níiฉัน chǎnได้ยิน dâi-yinไม่ mâiเหมือน mǔeanที่ tîiเคย koei
The songs I used to listen to, today I hear them differently.
ฟังfang = to listen and ได้ยินdâi-yin = to hear, the same pair as in English: you listen on purpose, you hear what reaches you. เคยkoei + verb = used to: เพลงที่ฉันเคยฟังpleeng tîi chǎn koei fang = the songs I used to listen to. ไม่เหมือนที่เคยmâi mǔean tîi koei = not like before (เหมือนmǔean = like, the same as). Men sing ฉันchǎn for "I" too (a tap says "female speaker"); in conversation a man says ผมpǒm. - ทำให้ tam-hâiฉัน chǎnอยู่ yùuคนเดียว kon-diawไม่ mâiเป็น bpenแล้ว láew
You've made me forget how to be on my own.
ทำให้tam-hâi + person + verb = to make someone (do or feel something): ทำให้ฉันหัวเราะtam-hâi chǎn hǔa-ráw = makes me laugh. Verb + เป็นbpen = to know how to, a learned skill: ว่ายน้ำเป็นwâai-náam bpen = can swim; ขับรถไม่เป็นkàp rót mâi bpen = can't drive. อยู่คนเดียวไม่เป็นyùu kon-diaw mâi bpen = not to know how to be alone. แล้วláew at the end = any more, things have changed. - คง kongไม่ mâiชิน chinถ้า tâaเธอ toeจะ jàต้อง dtâwngหาย hǎaiไป bpai
I'd never get used to it if you had to disappear.
ชินchin = to be used to: ไม่ชินmâi chin = not used to it; ชินแล้วchin láew = I'm used to it now, what you'll say about Bangkok traffic or spicy food. คงkong = probably, surely. ถ้าtâa = if; จะต้องjà dtâwng = would have to; หายไปhǎai bpai = to disappear, to be gone. - ก็ gâwขอให้ kǎw-hâiนาน naanเท่าไร tâo-raiเรา raoยัง yangคู่กัน kûu gan
So however long it is, may we still be together.
The title words: ยังyang = still and คู่กันkûu gan = to be a pair, together. The first series was called เพราะเราคู่กันpráw rao kûu gan, because we belong together; the sequel adds ยังyang: we still do. ขอให้kǎw-hâi = may…, the start of a wish or a blessing: ขอให้โชคดีkǎw-hâi chôok-dii = good luck! Adjective + เท่าไรtâo-rai = however…: นานเท่าไรnaan tâo-rai = however long. - ทำให้ tam-hâiคอร์ด kàwtเดิมๆ doem-doemนั้น nánเพราะ práwกว่า gwàaเก่า gào
You make the same old chords sound sweeter than before.
Here เพราะpráw isn't "because": said of music or a voice, it means sweet to the ear: เพลงนี้เพราะมากpleeng níi práw mâak = this song is lovely; เสียงเพราะsǐang práw = a beautiful voice. A tap on it shows its everyday meaning, because, and the songwriter plays on both: the next line uses เพราะpráw again, as because. คอร์ดkàwt = a chord, from English; เดิมๆdoem-doem = the same old; กว่าเก่าgwàa gào = than before. Sung fast, ทำให้tam-hâi runs together into one gliding sound here.

Grammar in this song
Knowing how: verb + เป็นbpen. After a verb, เป็นbpen means you know how to do it, a skill you learned: พูดภาษาไทยเป็นpûut paa-sǎa tai bpen = can speak Thai; ทำอาหารไม่เป็นtam aa-hǎan mâi bpen = can't cook. The song turns it into a love line: อยู่คนเดียวไม่เป็นyùu kon-diaw mâi bpen, I no longer know how to be alone. For something you're able to do right now, Thai uses ได้dâi: วันนี้ไปไม่ได้wan-níi bpai mâi dâi = I can't go today.
Listen and hear: ฟังfang and ได้ยินdâi-yin. ฟังเพลงfang pleeng = to listen to music; ได้ยินไหมdâi-yin mǎi = can you hear me?
However: adjective + เท่าไรtâo-rai. On its own เท่าไรtâo-rai asks how much (ราคาเท่าไรraa-kaa tâo-rai = how much is it?); after an adjective it means however: นานเท่าไรnaan tâo-rai = however long, ไกลเท่าไรglai tâo-rai = however far.
The culture behind it
Still 2gether (in Thai เพราะเรายังคู่กันpráw rao yang kûu gan, "because we still belong together", with the "still" in brackets, 2020) is the five-episode sequel to 2gether, the series that made Bright and Win famous far beyond Thailand. A year on, Tine (Win) leads the cheerleading club and Sarawat (Bright) the music club, and when the two clubs move into neighbouring rooms, their members start competing, with the couple caught in the middle. Directed by Aof Noppharnach for GMMTV, it aired on GMM 25 and LINE TV from 14 August to 11 September 2020.
Bright sang the first series' song, Kan Goo, alone; for the sequel he and Win sang together, their first duet. The words and melody are again by Achariya Dulyapaiboon. The song went to number one on JOOX's Thailand Top 100 before the series had even started, and stayed there three weeks running. Fans had a nickname ready, too: just as คู่กันkûu gan becomes คั่นกูkân guu when you swap its vowels and final sounds, the sequel trended on Twitter as ยังคั่นกูyang kân guu, "still Kan Goo" (กูguu is the rough "I, me" of close friends).
