ซะ (sa) in Thai: what it means and how to use it

ซะsá after a verb pushes the action: “go on, eat it!”, “just go!”.

ซะ sá

particle: just (do it)!, go on and…; (after a verb) completely particle

  • sá high
  • High: start high and go a little higher, a bit tense; don’t let it fall.

How to use it

ซะsá is the spoken form of เสียsǐa, and after a verb it pushes the action through: กินซะgin sá, go on, eat it; ไปซะbpai sá, just go. It's firmer than เถอะtòe, so it suits parents, close friends and good-natured nagging. It can also mean "completely, gone and done it": ลืมซะแล้วluuem sá láew, I've gone and forgotten. With บ้างbâang it's a gentle nudge: พักซะบ้างpák sá bâang, take a break for once.
