Learn these before you need them. The shout for help is ช่วยด้วยchûay dûay. To ask someone to call an ambulance, say ช่วยเรียกรถพยาบาลให้หน่อยchûay rîak rót-pá-yaa-baan hâi nàwy. A doctor is หมอmǎw, a hospital โรงพยาบาลroong-pá-yaa-baan and a pharmacy ร้านขายยาráan-kǎai-yaa, where pharmacists can help with many small problems.

Thailand's main emergency numbers are 1669 (medical emergencies and ambulance), 191 (police), 199 (fire) and 1155 (Tourist Police, with English-speaking staff). Save them in your phone today.

For everyday health trouble, Thai uses ไม่สบายmâi sà-baai (unwell), ปวดbpùat (to ache, as in ปวดหัวbpùat hǔa, a headache) and เจ็บjèp (to hurt, be sore). And if you're lost, หลงทางlǒng taang ("I'm lost") plus the name of your hotel or condo will get people pointing you home.
